To make a lasting difference in the life of another person or family is rare. Volunteering through ExpectCare offers that chance.  Our volunteers play an essential role in providing the care others need and find the experience personally gratifying, intellectually stimulating and emotionally meaningful.

"My name is Cathy, and I have been a volunteer with ExpectCare for almost 3 years now. After retiring I quickly learned I needed something to do. Having worked as a hospice social worker for 33 years I saw the role the volunteer played with patients and families. Remembering that, I decided to become a hospice volunteer. It gives me a good feeling to deliver birthday balloons, cupcakes, flowers, and other items to patients and families. The smiles on their faces are priceless." -Cathy 

"When my grandparents were nearing the end of their lives, I remember the great support my family received from their Hospice care team in Wyoming. They made an impression on me and when I got older, I wanted to be able to give back and do the same for others. That led me to volunteering with ExpectCare. I also remember singing at nursing homes from a very young age, so I have started this tradition with my son as well. He loves music and singing, and is a joy to the residents in the nursing homes. He says that he loves to visit and meet new people. We love volunteering because it is a small way in which we can give back to the community and share some joy with those around us." -Jennifer

"I’ve loved volunteering at ExpectCare Hospice for the past year and a half, and I’m planning to stick with it. I chose it because I’ve seen how the elderly can be overlooked, even in my own family, and I wanted to do something about that. ExpectCare treats their patients with so much love and respect—it’s exactly how I’d want my grandparents to be treated. I’ve helped with birthday parties, cleaning, and bringing food, but my favorite part is just listening to the patients’ stories. They have so much wisdom and life experience to share. "-Andi

It was a sweet time of sharing stories and advice, and even watercoloring one afternoon! What an honor it is to be able to be a companion for someone going through a challenging time.
